SUZANNE JACKSON - WEDDING HAIR

SUZANNE JACKSON - WEDDING HAIR

In August I worked on a very special wedding. Suzanne Jackson (So Sue Me) came to me earlier in the year looking for a stylist for her big day and I was delighted to get the chance to run my fingers through her gorgeous mop.

It was honestly such a relaxed morning. Suzanne's parents are the warmest and most welcoming people, it's a homely house and I was so well looked after. I was only tending to Suzanne on the day as the girls from Red Velvet Salon beautified the rest of the bridal party so it made for a very chilled morning. Suzanne actually refused to take pictures on her trial because she said she was really happy with it and if she had pictures she would only be over analysing it. I thought that was such a smart thing to do! I find brides lately are just over thinking things and putting pressure on themselves to seek perfection (which we all know doesn't exist)! So I thought that was really clever. How gorgeous are these images by Jenny McCarthy btw?

She chose this glamorous Hollywood wave and it was just gorgeous with her dark glossy locks! This style has been a popular choice for my brides the last two years but since August it has just sky rocketed! Everyone wants the "Sue Wave" as I'm now calling it!!

Since the wedding I've a had A LOT of enquiries from lots of hair obsessed people (mainly hairstylists) looking to know what tools and products that I used to achieve this look. So here it goes... (No products or tools mentioned are sponsored)

- Hair to be washed the day before and blast dried (but not straightened).

- Lightly spray some L'oreal Pli all over the hair and dry it in with the hairdryer, smoothing out the hairline and roots.

- Create a deep side parting.

- Using a GHD (I use a Cloud Nine straightener because it's closer to the classic GHD shape) start curling on the side with the heavier part. Take small sections working all the way around away from the face.

- It is really important to remember to curl every single section in the exact same direction. (this starts to look odd as you finish on the other side but trust me it will get better!!)

- If you want more bounce/volume at the root then place some heated rollers in on your curled sections at the top. Don't put heat rollers all the way through the back as this can change the shape of the curl.

- Leave hair to cool down. This is really important, I would leave for at least 30 minutes. If you brush too soon, the hair will drop.

- Start to brush the hair out. Don't be scared. It's about to get B E A - UTIFUL!!!!

- If the hair is particularly thick or you've used extensions then it might take a little longer. Just keep brushing until those ringlets are gone and that gorgeous S-shape wave appears.

-Pin back one side if you like and finish with some hairspray. I like the Aveda Air Control one. The smell is divine.

-If the hair is blonde and dry you could spritz a little Kevin Murphy "Shimmer Blonde" all over for extra shine points.

I hope this helps and here are more images of this style in some different hair types.
