DUBLIN GEMS - THE PEPPER POT
This is my second instalment of my Dublin Gems series. Sooo... if you are in search of the perfect sandwich, well then look no further…. I would literally get out of bed in the middle of the night for one of these babies. I'm talking about the famous Pear and Bacon Sandwich from The Pepper Pot in Powerscourt Shopping Centre. Actually, while we're here can we talk about Powerscourt for a sec? Ugh, it's one of my favourite buildings in Dublin and I think it's such a gorgeous place to stroll around, grab a coffee and people watch. I could spend the day there.
Anyway, back to business, The Pepper Pot is one of those consistently good places. I mean, it never ever disappoints. This sandwich in particular has slices of pear, the thickest bacon, cheese, rocket and aioli on the most beautifully thick, crusty bread. We have strayed from getting the sandwich on a couple of rare occasions and I can report it has all been amazing, like the sausage and chutney sambo or the french toast at the weekend - and you just have to get the freshly squeezed orange juice!!
Let's not forget about the cake either - that squishy, squashy, spongy Victoria Sandwich to name one. The desserts just taste really homemade, like being at your Granny's house, except the waiters don't pinch your cheeks or call you "Alannah".
It's a busy spot and quite narrow, so if you are going with a buggy, then I'd recommend trying to bag one of the outside seats at either end. It's just easier to access and you won't be sandwiched in between lots of people (excuse the pun). They also have a separate balcony which is IDEAL avec childer, so try to hold out for one of those spots! Alternatively, just grab a takeaway and eat in Stephens Green if the sun is out!
Last but not least, lets talk money. The sandwich is €6.50, which is really, really good considering location and quality of ingredients. The whole menu is great value. Get in there quick people!!!
