WEST CORK WEEKEND'ING

WEST CORK WEEKEND'ING

We got married 6 YEARS ago!!!! Like how did that happen?! A couple of weeks ago we went back to the scene of the crime, to West Cork - Glandore, to be exact. One of my favourite places in Ireland. Honestly, when the sun shines you could be anywhere in the world. It's just so beautiful. Our wedding venue was The Rectory, a beautiful period home overlooking the harbour. Sadly, it's closed now and anyone we talked to over the weekend was visibly upset because the family who owned it are held in such high regard in the community. It was upsetting to see the grounds overgrown and I hope whoever has bought it restores it to its former glory. Sisters Aoife and Michelle looked after us when we got married there and whoever takes over has a job on their hands to replicate even a fraction of the service we received there.

This time around we stayed in a gorgeous little B&B in Union Hall called Seascape. It's owned by the lovely Julie and her husband Brian. It was the cutest little place with a fabulous breakfast and stunning views over the harbour. Highly recommend it!

We arrived late-ish on the first evening and went straight to The Glandore Inn. It's the pub we met everyone in the night before our wedding. We all got a little (a lot) merry that night and I ended up painting my nails in bed at 2 o'clock in the morning. Yes, that's right, I had yet to be introduced to the magic of shellac but sure c'est le vie! Anyway, this time we had Tom, so we weren't down for the seisiún but for the gorgeous food. It was warm enough to sit outside to eat and watch the sunset over the harbour. It was heavenly and our favourite part of the whole weekend.

On Sunday we ventured in to Clonakility, had some coffee and cake and a little wander around. I absolutely love Clonakility. It is just so colourful and buzzy. I'd imagine it's a perfect place to live if you are from Cork. Close to the city and to the beach, full of cute cafes and boutiques. It's just idyllic!!

We drove to Baltimore for a stroll (and a ham and cheese toastie overlooking the bay). Then, because we are the ultimate creatures of habit, we went back to The Glandore Inn for dinner.

Monday morning was grey and drizzly in Glandore so I checked the weather and the sun was out in Kinsale so off we went. I'd like to say that day was amazing but Tom was having, let's just say, an "off day". Screaming was done, food was thrown, hair was pulled (mostly mine) and to top it off he decided to have the most explosive poo he's ever had, right in the middle of a busy restaurant, just as I was about to tuck into a banoffee pie. So yep, we were definitely ready to go home then.

I've realised since having Tom that parts of our holidays are infinitely better and I love getting to share things with him and make beautiful memories but some parts are just soooo aarrggghhh. Like cocktails and nice meals. Totally wasted on Tom. It's like being away with Father Jack.
